Observing Silence

Observing Silence

Observing silence in community with others is a powerful practice, one that reveals insights about yourself, your energy, and the dynamics of the group around you. In a world where we often rely on words, facial expressions, and even the subtlest of gestures to communicate, being told not to communicate at all—especially with your eyes or face—can feel incredibly unnatural. But it is in this stillness that true observation and deep listening can emerge.

For melanated people, whose cultural expressions often thrive in the vibrant nuances of body language, eye contact, and facial expressions, this type of silence holds even greater meaning. We are often conditioned to convey so much through a look, a raised eyebrow, a smirk, or a tilt of the head. It’s how we connect, how we bond, how we affirm one another without speaking a single word. So when this avenue of communication is stripped away, it’s like a shift in our spiritual practice. It invites a deeper internal dialogue—one that transcends the surface-level exchanges we’ve mastered.

In spaces like a tantric shaman training retreat, the power of silence can be an invitation to feel into the energy of others without the need for visual or verbal validation. The practice calls you to tune into your own body’s rhythm, becoming more aware of your breath, heartbeat, and subtle sensations. You may even notice the energy fields of others, the way their presence shifts the air around you, or how your own inner state fluctuates in response.

This silent communication is not about shutting down; rather, it’s about expanding into a different realm of understanding. It invites the spirit to speak where words cannot. In such spaces, where the richness of Black Girl Tantra comes alive, the silence becomes sacred. It holds the potential for unspoken rituals of healing, of grounding, and of ancestral connection. In the stillness, the weight of our collective experiences—the joy, the pain, the resilience—can be felt and acknowledged in a way that transcends spoken language.

Silence, then, becomes more than just the absence of sound. It’s a profound act of listening to the unseen, the unsaid, and the ancestral wisdom that lingers in the gaps. Whether in a sacred space in Covington or in the quiet moments of our day-to-day lives, practicing silence in community allows us to deepen our connection not only with ourselves but with each other.

Oshun Feast Day 2022

Oshun Feast Day 2022

There is always something powerful and transformative we can learn from #Oshun, the Orisha of love, beauty, fertility, and sweet waters. For me, she shows up in the most profound ways, constantly reminding me of the power of femininity and softness in a world that often asks us to be hard. Oshun teaches me to embrace my feminine energy, to let it flow and lead in all that I do—it is my birthright to walk in this power.

Oshun embodies the divine feminine in all her glory—she is the essence of grace, sensuality, and charm. She reminds me that my femininity is not something to hide or suppress; it is something to lead with. It is through this softness, this nurturing energy, that I find my strength. Whether in my personal life or professional endeavors, Oshun whispers to me to remain connected to this aspect of myself. She teaches that femininity isn’t weakness—it is the source of my power, my creativity, and my ability to manifest abundance in every area of life.

And in those moments where life throws challenges my way, and I feel the pull to react with hardness, bitterness, or anger, Oshun reminds me to stay sweet. Even when I have every reason to turn on the sour, to let the world’s negativity seep in, she guides me back to my natural state of joy, love, and compassion. She doesn’t ask me to deny my feelings or suppress my power, but rather to channel it in ways that uplift and heal, rather than destroy.

One of the most special symbols Oshun and I share is the peacock—a bird that symbolizes beauty, pride, and magnificence. Just like the peacock, Oshun encourages me to stand tall, to spread my feathers, and to let my brilliance be seen. The peacock’s iridescent feathers remind me that there is beauty in being bold, in owning your uniqueness, and in living unapologetically in your truth. Oshun’s presence in my life teaches me that, like the peacock, I am meant to shine, to embrace my colors, and to walk with confidence in all that I do.

Today, on #OshunFeastDay, I give thanks for her sweet abundance. Her blessings are infinite, always flowing like the river she rules. She pours out love, prosperity, and wisdom, reminding me that I, too, am worthy of receiving all that is good in life. Her teachings go beyond the material—they touch the spiritual, showing me that the greatest riches come from within. In every act of love, in every expression of beauty, in every moment of joy, Oshun’s spirit is alive.

To all who walk with Oshun, may you continue to feel her sweetness, her grace, and her power in your life. And may we all remember that leading with our femininity is a divine gift—a birthright passed down from the Orisha herself.

Thank you, Oshun, for your sweet abundance, for the love you pour into me, and for the lessons that guide me on this journey.

Today is #YemayaFeastDay, and my heart is filled with gratitude and love for this powerful and nurturing Yoruba deity. From the moment I was introduced to Yemaya, I felt an unshakeable connection to her energy. While I haven’t undergone any official rituals that would formally align me with her, in my spirit, we are like spiritual besties. There’s a deep understanding between us, a bond that transcends titles or labels. She’s been my entry point into the world of African Traditional Religions (ATR) and African Diasporic Religions (ADR), and for that, she will always hold a special place in my spiritual journey.

Yemaya, or Yemoja, as she’s known in different traditions, is the mother of the oceans, the protector of women, and a fierce yet gentle force of nature. As I’ve continued to grow in my spiritual practice, I’ve noticed so much of myself in her. Her strength, her ability to nurture and protect, her deep emotional wisdom—these are all qualities I recognize within myself and continue to cultivate. Yemaya’s energy is vast, like the ocean she rules, and I see pieces of her in others around me as well. Whether it’s in the women who lead with love, the mothers who fiercely protect their children, or the people who stand as pillars in their communities, Yemaya’s spirit shows up in so many ways.

My journey through ATR and ADR has been nothing short of transformative. I’m learning more about myself, my ancestors, and the powerful energies that guide me. Every lesson, every ritual, every moment of reflection feels like another layer of understanding is being added to my soul. But no matter how far I travel on this path, Yemaya will always be my first love. She was the one who opened the door for me, who invited me to explore the depths of spiritual wisdom and healing.

Today, I honor Yeye with all my heart. I offer her the respect and love she so richly deserves. Yemaya’s energy is both calming and empowering, reminding me that I can be soft like the ocean waves and strong like the tides that shape the shorelines. Her teachings have guided me through so many emotional waters, and I am forever grateful for her presence in my life.

So, on this sacred day, I lift up my voice in celebration of Yemaya. Whether she is called Yemoja, Iemanja, or Mami Wata, her energy remains consistent—a force of divine femininity, protection, and abundance. To everyone who walks with Yemaya, may you continue to feel her love and guidance as you navigate your own spiritual waters.

Happy Feast Day, Yeye! May your waters always flow, bringing healing, wisdom, and protection to all who seek your embrace.

I Did A Thing…

I Did A Thing…

After 10 months of deep study, self-discovery, and transformation, along with a powerful 4-day intensive, I am beyond proud to share that I have emerged as a Tantric Shamanic Healer Apprentice. This journey has been nothing short of profound—a deep dive into the mysteries of self, spirit, and the art of healing through the ancient practices of tantra and shamanism. This is not just a title I carry; it is a calling, a sacred responsibility, and a vow that I have taken to live in alignment with my truth and purpose.

As I step into this role, I have taken a vow to model a life of pleasure, joy, and authentic connection, both with myself and with others. Pleasure is not something we need to earn or deserve—it is our birthright. Yet so many of us have been conditioned to believe that pleasure is a luxury, something to feel guilty about, or something that comes only after we’ve worked ourselves to exhaustion. My mission is to help shift that narrative. Pleasure is a path to healing, to self-awareness, and to deeper spiritual connection. It allows us to fully inhabit our bodies, honor our desires, and live in the present moment with intention.

In my apprenticeship, I have learned that living a life of pleasure isn’t about indulgence for its own sake—it’s about removing the obstacles that block us from fully experiencing joy, connection, and fulfillment in our everyday lives. Whether those obstacles are rooted in fear, shame, trauma, or limiting beliefs, I am committed to helping others identify and clear them so they can reclaim their right to a life filled with pleasure, purpose, and wholeness.

The Tantric Shamanic path is one of healing, balance, and sacred transformation. It integrates ancient wisdom with the modern need for spiritual liberation and self-empowerment. Through this work, I will guide others to connect with their bodies, tap into their inner power, and heal the wounds that have kept them from living freely and joyfully. This is about more than just physical pleasure—it’s about soul-level healing, about aligning with the energy of the universe and recognizing the sacredness in every aspect of life.

As I continue this journey, I hold immense gratitude for my teachers, guides, and ancestors who have supported me along the way. This is only the beginning of a lifelong path of learning and service. I am here to help others embrace their own journeys, to live in their full power, and to experience the deep, transformative healing that tantra and shamanism can bring.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and sharing this powerful work with the world.

#TheQueen has indeed stepped into a new chapter, and I am ready to embrace it fully.
