Living an African-Centered Lifestyle: A Journey to Wholeness

Living an African-Centered Lifestyle: A Journey to Wholeness

My take on living an African-centered lifestyle—a path that honors the wisdom, culture, and energy of the African Diaspora and embraces metaphysical practices like reiki, astrology, numerology, hoodoo, and Lucumi. Through the power of AI, I envision my dream surroundings and lifestyle, creating an environment where African heritage and the spirit of my ancestors are present. This way of life is sacred, intentional, and deeply rooted in my identity as a Black woman and practitioner of various spiritual traditions.

My home is my sacred temple, adorned with vibrant African artwork and ancestral altars, inviting the presence of my spirit guides. Each morning, I meditate with crystals connected to my root chakra, calling on the ancestors and Orishas for healing and guidance. Mondays are dedicated to Eleggua, offering sweets or rum to honor his pathways and open roads to clarity.

The images in this post depict my “ideal” living space and style.

My style reflects this connection, incorporating African fabrics and colors that resonate with my spirit. Turquoise, my namesake, embodies calm, intuition, and healing energy. Every color choice is intentional, aligning with the energy I wish to embody each day.

Numerology and astrology also guide my journey. As a Life Path 1, I’m here to lead and pioneer new realms of discovery, which I do by blending African spirituality with everyday life. My Libra Moon and Pisces Rising help me navigate emotional situations and bring harmony to my world.

Practicing hoodoo and Lucumi has deepened my connection to spirit, allowing me to honor the Orishas and work with natural elements. Simple rituals, protection jars, and candles at my altar reinforce my connection to the ancestors and the spiritual energies that support me.

Living an African-centered life is also about community, connecting with others who share these values of gratitude, respect for the earth, and Black joy. Together, we uplift one another, celebrate, and keep our culture alive.

This lifestyle nurtures my body, mind, and spirit. Reiki, meditation, astrology, and numerology keep me grounded, guiding me through life’s cosmic dance with my ancestors walking beside me.

To live this way is to honor those who came before us and to walk intentionally, becoming future ancestors ourselves. Every step in this sacred journey is a reminder of our divine guidance.

About Acceptance

About Acceptance

This morning, I had a major download while talking to my mother, and it’s all about ACCEPTANCE (from your parents).

When it comes to my parents, I truly feel like I’ve experienced the best of both worlds.

Starting with my dad, John Brooks—he has always been incredibly easy to talk to. He allows me to be myself, and even though he doesn’t always express his pride verbally, I can feel it through his actions. He shows it when he becomes my personal PR agent, especially when a family member or someone needs support. With my dad, I’ve always been able to speak freely. If I’m like either of my parents, it’s definitely him. I feel that my siblings and I represent the best of his personality. From him, I’ve always felt complete ACCEPTANCE. He never judges me, even when I’ve shared things about myself that weren’t the best. He responds with calm understanding, reminding me that I need to “see things through.” This is why the thought of disappointing him is devastating to me—it would send me into a deep funk.

Now, my mom, Bronnie Brooks, has always been different. Growing up, I often felt like she was hard to please—why did everything have to be done her way? As I’ve grown older, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for her, though it hasn’t stopped us from having some EPIC CLASHES. Recently, though, my mom and I have been able to grow closer and really understand each other. This happened when I started seeing her as more than just a mother—I started seeing her as a human being and a woman. I realized that she has feelings (which I hadn’t acknowledged for a long time), along with her own fears, goals, aspirations, and setbacks.

Believe it or not, it’s my mom I now share everything with—even when I sometimes dump my emotions on her (I’ll admit that). I’ve come to realize that she will always go to bat for me, while also knowing when to put me in my place.

Today, I had the opportunity to pull my mother’s Human Design chart and discuss the basics with her. We’ll have two more sessions where we’ll dive deeper into her Personality and Design sides of the chart. What I felt/feel from her today is ACCEPTANCE—acceptance that her child is walking a different path, that her child has a purpose that may not resonate with others. I’ve shared with her my faith journey, ancestor veneration, conjuring, magic, numerology, astrology, dream interpretations, oracle card readings—ALL of it. Never once have I felt rejected. Her response has always been something along the lines of, “It feels like you’re walking your path, and I can always find some biblical reference to what you’re talking about, even if it’s not directly stated.”

There’s no greater feeling than having the person(s) who created you wholeheartedly accept who you are today—and who you’re becoming tomorrow. It gives me a sense of invincibility. I feel like, “If my parents are with me, I, surely, do not care what anyone…and I mean any one, else thinks.”

So, shout out to the parentals, John and Bronnie, for loving me, supporting me, and empowering me to be fully myself—yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I love you both, and my heart is overflowing with gratitude.

Amen and Ashé.

National Body Care Day 2024

National Body Care Day 2024

TODAY IS #NationalBodyCareDay…so allow me to put on my hat as Madame Turquo!se – Tantric Shaman Practitioner. Do you have a habit or practice of listening to and honoring your body? Many times, we respond to the things that are going on with our minds but it is also important to learn how to listen to our bodies.

Days like this make me think of The Mediativist – Jerome Paige as he often reminds us to “note what comes up” and “note the noter”. While my teacher – Shamanic Mystic Maisha Najuma Aza reminds us to note what comes up in your body and take action from there (I am paraphasing both because it more involved but the main idea is PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY). So today, I implore you to do something for your body…something that restores and replenishes you or something that teaches you something you did not know.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention that we are in the energy of planetary retrogrades (Mercury is definitely in retrograde as well as a host of other planets) and have a solar eclipse approaching. Whether you subscribe to these ideals or not, you are affected so treat yourself with grace.

Wishing you the best. I love you all and wish you the best.

Unveiling the Magic Within: The Journey to Madame Turquo!se

Unveiling the Magic Within: The Journey to Madame Turquo!se

In the tapestry of life, there exists a realm where magic intertwines with purpose, intention, and pleasure. Allow me to take you on a voyage of self-discovery – how did I get here?  Follow my  journey that illuminates the depths of the soul and unveils the magic within.

The Cosmic Prelude

In the vibrant heart of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, I emerged into the cosmic dance of stars and constellations, marking the inception of my narrative. Embracing the title of High Priestess of the Cs – Creativity, Conjure, Color, Culture, and Curves – I discovered my soul intricately woven into the tapestry of existence, entangled with the vibrant threads of life.

Ancestral Roots and Cultural Passion

Being of African descent, my path is firmly anchored in the wisdom and customs passed down by my ancestors and foremothers.  A fervor for the myriad cultures and traditions spanning the African diaspora forms the bedrock of my purposeful way of life. This sacred connection is the pulse into each of my pursuits, breathing life and meaning into every endeavor.

The Sacral Chakra Creative

In the professional realm, I identify as a Sacral Chakra Creative – a term that encapsulates the fusion of creativity and spirituality in my life. Graphic design, interior design, photography, and various creative mediums are the tools I wield to express the magic within. However, the profound connection between creativity and spirituality wasn’t immediately apparent in my early years as a professional creative. It was an epiphany that unfolded as a natural extension of my purpose.

What’s In My Mojo Bag?

The journey into self-discovery led me to assemble a mystical toolbox brimming with transformative modalities. Reiki, astrology, numerology, chakras, human design, chromatherapy, and ancient rituals became the keys to unlocking the doors to inner realms. With dedication and persistence, I emerged as a Tantric Shaman Practitioner, Reiki Master, Color Specialist, and embarked on the path to becoming a budding Aromatherapist. This sacred toolbox is not just an array of practices but a reflection of my commitment to guiding others on their journey to clarity, intention, purpose, and pleasure.

The Call of Spirit and 15 Years of Evolution

My entry into the spiritual and healing arts began as a child with daily horoscopes, an early connection that foreshadowed a deeper calling. In the 90s, I dipped my toe into the spiritual waters, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that I answered the call of Spirit with intention. The turning point came with my first numerology reading, where the practitioner prophesied a path in this work for me. At that moment, I couldn’t fathom the significance, but now, over 15 years later, the Turquoise Sanctuary opens its doors to serve others on their unique journeys.

Navigating Realms Together

Join me on this enchanting odyssey, where the rich tapestry of heritage converges with the healing arts. Together, let’s navigate the realms of creativity, spirituality, and self-discovery. As we dance through the shared existence of our souls, we uncover the keys to a life illuminated with purpose and joy.

The magic within is not a distant spell but a living, breathing essence waiting to be unveiled. Are you ready to embark on this transformative journey of self-discovery with Madame Turquo!se? The invitation is extended, and the doors to the Turquoise Sanctuary are open for you.
